This post offers a rare opportunity to work in the rapidly-expanding field of forensic personality disorder.  The position is based in Millfields medium secure unit at the John Howard Centre in Hackney, East London.  Millfields is one of three national services on the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway.  It provides assessment and treatment for 16 adult men with severe personality disorder from London and the South, who have committed serious offences and continue to pose a high risk to others.  The therapeutic model approach is that of an adapted therapeutic community (TC), with an emphasis on developing a psychodynamic understanding of the patients and their impact upon staff.  Integrated into the over-arching TC framework are psychology, art therapy, structured offending behaviour work, and an imaginative programme of education, activities and paid work.  The multidisciplinary ethos of the service is exceptionally strong and regular staff support and reflective practice groups are provided.     The successful candidate will carry out clinically supervised group and occasionally individual work with patients, and support the service in maintaining the core therapy programme by attending and contributing to community meetings.  He or she will also provide a psychodynamic perspective on the assessment and formulation of patients, and contribute to the supervision, training and development of staff.
